Attached is the Usability Test Report for RF, BG, BR, & RW. This report signifies the completion of our usability test of the TOPIC Interface. Our test evaluated the users’ abilities to log in to TOPIC, submit a draft, view the newly submitted draft, and view upcoming assignment due dates.

We tested a total of four participants. We evaluated these participants in the four areas listed above to determine the ease of these average tasks performed within the TOPIC interface. In order to achieve thorough results, which are included in this report, we chose both experienced and inexperienced users. We tested two participants from each category.

We were concerned with usability issues such as the ease of user interaction with the interface. We evaluated the route in which the participants chose to submit drafts, view drafts, and view upcoming assignment due dates in order to discover potential problems within the interface.

We found difficulty in logging in as a new user and confusion in submitting drafts into the interface. We also detected frustration among several users when viewing recently submitted drafts. Furthermore, we established that viewing a recently submitted draft is impossible when the “BACK” button is used.

We recommend that future redesigns of the TOPIC interface take into consideration the problems which we have identified. We would like to take this opportunity to reiterate the importance of usability testing as a means of uncovering the most important problems and issues affecting the performance of a user interface.
