"Nothing feels better than being able to encourage a child to pick up a book to read or a pen to write what they feel. That child can be the great writer of the future and If I can help in some way, even if it is to offer a little encouragement, that is great. Literacy skills will be useful to them, no matter what field they choose."

She holds a Ph.D. in Industrial & Organizational psychology, and recently finished a graduate literary fiction program at the University of Washington.

Nina has also lent her time and efforts to the Texas Writer's League Salute To African American Writers Board, Austin Children's Museum where she is a former board member, the Capital Area Food Bank, El Buen Samaritano Episcopal Mission, The Lone Star Girl Scout Council, The Austin Chapter of Jack & Jill of America where she has been the coordinator for the three to five year old group and is currently the chair of the Social Committee, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and the Austin Symphony League. She continues to be active in activities at both of her children's schools.
